Any advice on some cheap trail cams? No clue what to look for or avoid... Would I be ok just getting whatever is cheap on Amazon?

We recently had some "vandalism" going on in our flower beds and I bought my first trail camera to figure out what it was. Turned out to be a coon family that was digging up the flowers. Anyway, with no experience with the things (trail cameras) i started looking around and wound up buying a GardePro A3S from Amazon. I have to say I'm really impressed with the quality of the pics it takes and the ease of use. I suggest you at least give it a looksee. It did take one night to get some of the settings corrected (our area lights washed out the first nights photos) But after that it proved to be just what i was looking for. I paid $90 but at the moment they have a special offer, it's $75 (this is the way things always work for me).

I run multiple cameras and find Cuddeback cameras with Cuddelink work best for me. One camera with a cell plan and all the rest connect to it.

Cost is a little more than a standalone camera, but you can put them places and have an idea of what is going on without walking to check on them.

Since you mentioned cheap I'll pass this on. I just walked into Walmart in Wapakoneta, and they had some trail cams marked down from $69 to $21.50, At our store these are in the clearance section, for us that just past the health and beauty aids area. If this is of interest I can go back and get the name, etc info off the camera and post back. Your local Walmart may have the same deal.
