It use to be a fairly simple question when we were back in the shotgun only era. Once it was opened up to pistols we had more options available to us. I went with the T/C Contender in 44 magnum. I was good out to 100 yards with its 12" barrel. Once rifles were allowed I stayed with the same caliber and use a Marlin 1894. I have other pistols and rifles that qualify caliber wise. However the 44 magnum just seems to fit my style of hunting. I'm interested to hear what everyone is using both guns and calibers. Also why you decided on them.

Beautiful rig, and view!

I haven't used my 12g since they allowed the straight wall cartridges. Since then I shoot the 350L and 45-70. Both do a great job on whitetail and I've added a suppressor to save my ears.

Tikka T3X in 6.5 Creedmoor…..in MT. It's worth the drive to me! If I were still hunting Ohio, I'd get a 350 Legend bolt action with a 1-6x optic.

Just got a cva cascade for $500!!! 450 bushmaster. I need to find a scope for it.... Was considering the monstrum "beast" in 1-8. Have been recommended the Leupold vx freedome 4-12(I think) specifically for the 450 cartridge. Apparently they're selling blems for like $200ish which seems like a good deal. Any recommendations? I'm not trying to spend a lot of money, I just want effective.

As I'm sure you know, there are tons of scopes to look at out there. Some that I have never heard about before. I have a few vortex scopes and they have functioned great for me. The price is also reasonable too. I also have a Mueller scope on my 270 and I have had no issues with it. They also fit within your price range.
