I got back from a mountain hunt last fall absolutely destroyed...I used to be in better shape. Next year I'm actually training year-round instead of showing up out of shape and suffering. Who else is tired of being the guy slowing everyone down? What are you changing about your fitness approach in 2026?

I'm 71 and still enjoy my time in the woods and wading in the rivers fly fishing for steelhead. For several years now I walk at least 2 miles 5 days a week and do weights. I know if I don't I'll pay the price. I can't go like I use to ,so I have to work a little harder at it each year.

I started switching things up, doing weighted hikes with a thirty-pound pack and tossing in some stair climbs. It really feels like it pays off a lot more than just jogging around on flat ground.

Been there, nothing like a tough hunt to remind you fitness can’t be a last-minute project

That wake-up call hits hard, I've been there too, now I stay consistent so I’m not hurting halfway through.

bottoms of my feet hurt after walking so to save them as much as I can I switched to biking to improve my fitness
I experienced the same sore feet thing when I retired and moved to Ohio a couple of years ago. My wife convinced me to see a Podiatrist (I had never considered it) and it was excellent advice. He X-rayed my feet while standing from multiple directions and could quickly see what was causing it. He recommenced specific shoe and boot brands (having to do with box width) and specific insoles to mitigate my particular foot issue. He gave me a pair to start out and the difference was immediate and amazing! I can buy them from him or online, and now have them in all my shoes and boots. Best money I ever spent.

That’s a great outcome, foot alignment issues are easy to overlook and the right insoles can make a huge difference quickly.

All that sounds great, except the move to OH. Wyoming is a state! That said, sometimes life chose for us.

Agreed. My wife moved all over the country for me and my career so, upon retirement, she got to pick the final state. We had spent the passed 25 years in the state of Oregon but it had become a cesspool. Despite my wishes to retire to Texas where we had lived throughout the 80's, she wanted to "come home." Ohio is okay as states go but isn't my first pick.

Ditto...I worked for John Deere and they had me all over the country and even spent time in other countries. So when I retired she got to choose where we retired. I wanted to move to Costa Rica or Florida or Georgia, but she chose Ohio to be close to her family. Ohio is where she and I grew up, and now we are back to the same place we grew up. We have been married for 38 years, and 30 of those years she had to go far away from her family. So while I did not end up where I desired, I think we did the right thing. /cheers

Yes, I agree you did the right thing . . . as did I. Funny how that works, eh?
