Road Trip with a Gun

Planning a trip to visit family and got to figure out the best route. I want to bring my firearm, but going through New York State makes things complicated. It feels like avoiding NY adds a crazy amount of drive time. Just wondering if anyone else has tackled this and what option you went with. I’m open to suggestions if there are any good routes or tips to consider.

Forget New York if you want to avoid gun law problems. FOPA helps but NY is still tricky. I drove around it once to save trouble.

Stick to FOPA...keep your gun unloaded and locked in the trunk, ammo should be separate while traveling or just ship it through an FFL

I have similar issue going to and from Oklahoma and Ohio and needing to avoid Illinois. Taking the Southern route (KY, Tenn, Ark, OK) adds abouut 3 hours for me. I try avoiding having a gun with me while traveling (I have guns in both states so only vulnerable on the trip).
