I'm starting a discussion here. What's one thing about hunting that the general public completely misunderstands? I'll go first; people think we waste meat but in reality, most hunters I know use everything and eat better than anyone buying factory-farmed meat..

Some people think hunters are careless but most of us are careful. We respect the animal, use every part and are always helping conservation. It sucks having to explain that.

Most hunters are far more respectful of the animal and the meat than the average consumer realizes. It’s conservation and sustenance combined.

Most non/anti hunters seem to believe we get a thrill from the "kill." I can only speak for myself but the act of watching an animal die at my hands ain't easy.

Most non-hunters hate deer, etc. Like they are dumb or pests or trouble in the road. They often say things like, “Kill them all or I’ll hit them on the road.”

Most hunters think about conservation, how development affects the deer, how to avoid hitting them, worried about the deer getting stressed by coyotes, etc.

It,s not the kill its the thrill of the chase... I think we all know at least one hunter or fisherman that never gets , skunked,, They have put their dues in and know where the best chances of being successful are at any time or place. Most people do not have the time or dedication to put into a ..hobby.. Besides gun hunting deer is only a week long, do a big drive if its brown, its down. Yep i am a deer hunter. the latter is how most of the public view hunters and for some its the truth. of course I M O only
