I figured I would start a 2025 harvest thread.
Here is my deer shot in south central Montana. A whitetail foothills buck. Shot on Montana block management land. It was taken with a Tikka T3X in 6.5 Creedmoor at about 200 yards off a lightweight walking bipod. I hit him behind the shoulder with a 129gr Nosler ABLR. The bullet was a bit aggressive and ruined some entry side shoulder, even though the impact point was clearly behind the shoulder. Impact was probably around 2600 fps, so fast, but not blazin’.
It was the second biggest deer I saw on my entire trip. I think the one I bounced that stopped at 483 yards on another property was slightly bigger, but it was off my permitted land so I just watched it feed out to over 700 yards and get rejected by a doe.
I also saw a big bull elk about 20 yards from me on that hike about 30 yards away, completely hidden and on another property!
Overall it was a great trip and well worth it to hunt with family in Montana like we did when I was growing up!
Please share your harvest story…..or comment on mine.
