I’ve heard some pretty questionable gun advice over the years, and a few lines still make me shake my head. What’s the worst piece of advice you’ve ever heard someone give about firearms?

Once heard revolvers are perfect but come on, anything made of parts can break or get stuck

“A $150 Hipoint is just as good as some $500 pistol.”
“You need to be ready to shoot 700 yards to go on a guided Antelope hunt.”
“You need a rifle under 9lbs to hunt.”
“9mm is just as good as 40 or 45.”
“22’s are inaccurate.”
“You need a 30-06 or bigger to hunt big game(deer, antelope, elk).”
“You’re ready to CCW.” After completion of the bare minimum state training.

Haha there were 2 old ladies in my class long ago. They were flagging, struggling with everything... Far from capable. The guy ended up passing them. I'm all for them wanting to protect themselves... But they definitely needed a lot more help before I would have said they're ready.
That's a glaring example... But I will admit that I fell in the category of physically ready but not mentally. A lot of young guys are EXCITED to start carrying, and some have the "I wish a mfer would" attitude. I know guys my age the same way... But being "ready" is 1% pulling the trigger, 99% dealing with everything else that's set in motion afterward.... Emotionally/morally, spiritually, financially, etc. and it takes a lot more than 12 hours to be "ready"
