What was your first AR.

I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone’s first AR was. It doesn’t matter if you built your own or bought one from a manufacturer. Being in the Air Force you don’t get much experience shooting AR’s. If I remember correctly we only shot a ten round magazine and that was it. The next four years the only AR’s I saw was MP’s carrying them at the gates.

My first AR was a Colt target model. Very nice rifle but I just couldn’t get use to it. The loud spring in the butt stock ringing in my ears every time I pulled the trigger drove me crazy. It just didn’t feel or shoot like my Remington 700. So I ended up selling it and thinking I got that out of my system and I was ready to look for another regular rifle. The problem was that I just couldn’t get the AR platform out of my mind. There had to be one out there that worked for me. So I did a lot of research and decide to try again and bought a Rock River A4 Varmint model. It came with a 20” stainless steel heavy barrel and two stage match trigger. I topped it off with a Nikon P-223 4x12 scope and added an adjustable magpul stock. The specs said it would shoot 3/4” MOA at 100 yards. This was back in 2014 and I still have it in my safe. Needless to say this rifle made the difference. It fit me well and it shot fantastic. I don’t have a collection of them but I’m sure this one will be around for a while.

i believe the first one i ever fired was a colt A2 sporter iron sights. that one was super accurate. the first one i bought was a stag arms A2 and that is lucky to hold 4 inch groups @100 yards. one of these days i'm going to pull that barrel and put in a faster twist , with maybe a varmint barrel. the old barrel is going to be turned into a poker for my wood stove. my first build was a anderson arms 16inch carbine, nothing fancy. but it will keep rounds inside a coffee can @300 yards usually. 5 round groups stay about 1 1/4 inches. i think i built it for $425, just took my time found good milspec parts on sale. i wish it was chrome lined but it will do.

You all have some seriously nice collections! It's awesome to hear about everyone's first AR, and it's cool to see what you guys have ended up with over the years
