I'm helping some friends buy their first handguns. If you've used handguns in this price range, which pistols have stayed reliable and which ones have given you problems?

There's a bunch of reliable options under $600 that are great for beginners. Just go with well-known brands and good quality ammo.

Have a look at the Rock Island guns. They have a very good reputation. I have several and have had zero problems with any of them.

Goal number 1, it must fit the shooter.
I would disagree and agree with that.

If we are talking newer shooter, I would say a new shooter doesn’t know what the difference between fit and not fit is. Fit is not that something feels good. To me is how reliably can I grab, draw and shoot to the same POI.

To an experienced shooter, maybe they know what characteristics of the grip are to make it reliably accurate in their hands.

S&W M&P9 m2.0 is a great well priced choice.

Grip angle is a factor to consider when purchasing a hand gun. For instance most glock handguns have a 22 degree angle while smith, sig, CZ, and springfield have a 18 degree angle. I love my glocks, they are virtually indestructible but I carry smith because I can get on point faster.

Kind of depends. If you are new or highly adaptable, it may not matter. It doesn’t matter much to me.
